Modern Idolatry - staying Hot for GOD

staying Hot for God avoiding modern idolatry of business and tv watching living a secular life

Modern Idolatry - staying Hot for GOD

It seems that we get so busy with life, especially when you get kids. It's looking after, loving, cleaning up, feeding, and surviving financially.
When you are single it's - catching up with friends, preparing your career. Socialising, doing the latest 'thing'. And so every part of our lives rushes us forward through our lives to the next part.

Covetousness

Covetous - jealously eager for thepossession of something (esp the property of another person)

Over spending in countries and economies have almost ruin whole country economies. And will do so in the near future again.

who do you serve?

Life - in the modern world especially is about obtaining things. In 1 Peter 2:9.

God says: we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, to declare His praises.

We have a choice to be God focused or World focused

In contrast:
God focus on: Our growth in righteousness and holiness in relationship with Him. Material wealth is sideline things for Him.

We focus on:  Material things, temporal things, holiness and righteousness are sideline things for us - 'nice to haves'

God's showed me that this is our modern idolatry - the pursuit of financial gain, not necessarily at the cost of ethics and morality but at the cost of sacrificing all 'free time' so that we don’t have the best time and energy to seek the LORD..

See what 2 Timothy 3: 2 says:

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof

Does your local church has ' a form of godliness' yet has denied the 'power of the gospel'? the reasons are stated in the same verse, proud, arrogant, covetous etc.

I know on the surface people look like good people but how much time does individuals seek God, and how much time do they sit in front of the television and look at Satan does his thing. Being 'waxed' turning their spirit hard, their heart cold.

See Matthew 24: 12 Jesus talks about the future state of believers: 'And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold'

Imagine your heart is like a container a bath.A bath which can be filled with hot or cold water or hot and cold water.

Your love and affection can be hot / cold /  lukewarm towards God. Obviously God does not like lukewarm, or cold but hot.
What is the temperature of the water you tap into your bath on a daily basis? Is it spirit-hot or fleshly-cold? The answer to this question will determine how much you love God.

Bible verses about Covetousness

Colossians 3:5 - Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Ephesians 5:5 - For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Hebrews 13:5 - [Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Luke 12:15-21 - And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Luke 12:15 - And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Exodus 20:17 - Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that [is] thy neighbour's.

1 John 2:15-17 - Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
